The Leafs gave up a 1st to get rid of Patrick Marleau after he'd scored 16 goals and 37 points. He was set to earn $6.25M for one year. To me that's basically getting a first to take a player making about $3M too much. I think Zaitsev is making about $4M too much, and he still has the rest of this season too.
The trade for Zaitsev was pure shit. The Sens weakness for years has been super-shitty pro scouting. I hope they're taking steps to fix that. Hopefully Bowness is helping with that.

Sens acquire one of the NHL's many mediocre Browns, probably to provide a buffer so that Ridly Greig can ride out the season in Belleville.
